Platelet Rich Plasma - PRP
PRP which stands for “platelet-rich plasma“, is a medical treatment used in our practice and recommended in cases of hair loss and, more particularly, in cases of androgenetic alopecia (baldness). It is also indicated for rejuvenation of the face and neckline (“vampire lift”).
The procedure for skin rejuvenation is as follows:
It is made for each patient from their own blood sample. PRP is the yellowish part (serum) of the blood obtained after centrifugation. This platelet-rich plasma is injected directly into the patient’s scalp in the most affected areas. Recently, we have been using a gun that allows painless administration and therefore no longer requires local anaesthesia. The session lasts approximately 30 minutes. There are very few side effects: rarely headaches or bruising. It is above all a natural treatment as it is derived from the patient’s own blood.
Mechanism of action
PRP is derived from stem cell research It contains platelets as well as all the growth factors necessary for a better vascularisation of the scalp (blood supply). In this way, the stem cells of the hair follicle are stimulated, which leads to their differentiation. Stem cells are in fact cells that have the capacity to transform into any cell type according to needs and therefore allow tissue renewal. Thus, PRP allows both a reduction in chronic androgenic hair loss and an activation of regrowth after several sessions.

Recommendations
In case of hair loss, before any PRP treatment, a medical consultation is necessary in order to evaluate the aetiology (deficiency, medication, genetics, infection, dermatology…). In some cases, an additional assessment must be carried out (blood test, hair analysis or scalp skin biopsy).
PRP treatment is not a treatment for everyone. It is especially interesting for acute hair loss of undetermined origin (after adjustment) or for chronic androgenic alopecia in order to slow down its evolution. It is all the more effective if it is performed early in the alopecia process.
In general, 3 to 4 sessions spaced 4 weeks apart are necessary. In order to maintain the results obtained, we always recommend 1 to 2 sessions per year.
We recommend and perform PRP because it is natural, painless and has no health side effects.
Other dermatological indications
PRP can also be used in injections on the skin of the face, neckline or back of the hands for its anti-ageing and regenerating action. It is then nicknamed “Vampire Lift” in the United States
where it has been made famous by certain celebrities such as Kim Kardashian or Bar RafaelIt provides a beautiful rejuvenating effect (reduction of fine lines, better appearance) by the growth hormone of the platelets as well as the cellular activation by stem cells.
The protocol is a little different: An injection every 6 months, often combined with another technology to optimise the results (e.g. LED), is then required. The effects are most noticeable after 4 weeks when the skin looks better hydrated, less wrinkled and of better quality.
