Patch tests
What is it? What does it involve?
It is a technique that allows the identification of the allergen(s) responsible for the reaction (contact eczema, atopy, drug reaction, conjunctivitis, urticaria…).
It consists of applying various “standard” and internationally determined substances, previously deposited in small tablets, to the healthy skin of the back. This support is covered with plasters in order to keep the products in contact with the skin for 48 hours.
There are numerous batteries of substances to be tested. They will be chosen by the Dermatologist according to his anamnesis (i.e.: profession, hobbies, lifestyle of the patient …)
How long does it take to get results? Do I need several sessions?
The “patch tests” are removed at the 48th hour and the results are read at the 48th and 72nd hour or at the 96th hour.
It is therefore necessary to plan 3 sessions, one for the placement of the patches and two for the reading of the results.
Does it hurt? Side effects?
It does not cause any pain.
If the reaction is positive, the patient will have various itches, irritations or burns (rare) related to certain substances.
How much does it cost?
A range of estimates can be obtained during the consultation.
Partial reimbursement authorized by the mutual in most diagnoses.
