Mole mapping for melanoma screening
Mapping is performed in patients who :
- have nevi with a "heterogeneous" or dysplastic appearance, i.e. with several colours (light brown, dark, dark red...),
- have a nevus that darkens in colour, that itches, that bleeds..,
- have a close relative in their family who has developed malignant melanoma,
- have a history of malignant melanoma and should be kept under surveillance,
- have more than 100 nevi that develop over time.
It allows :
- to take pictures of the nevi,
- to measure them, in size and colour,
- to compare them over time (follow-up),
- to send the different photos to the next Dermatologist if the patient goes abroad.
- to send the different photos to the next Dermatologist if the patient goes abroad.
This means that a personal “map” of moles can be made for each patient.
to send the different photos to the next Dermatologist if the patient goes abroad. It also helps to avoid removing moles that are benign.
